Happy New Year! By the end of January, we approach our half way mark of the school year.

Students are settled into the routine of school again, and they have lots to learn between now

and June.

This is an important note from the nurse. Cold and flu season is here. If your student has been

ill during the night, (upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) the following day he/she should be

kept home. The student should not be sent to school to see if he/she is well enough to be

there. If your student complains of not feeling well in the morning, his/her temperature should

be taken. When your student has a temperature of 100.5 degrees or greater, he/she should be

kept home until the temperature has been normal for 24 hours.

One of my goals is to encourage families to be a part of the activities we have at SES. It is a way

to get to know your children and staff in a different setting. So, here is a preview of upcoming

events. Mark your calendars!!

January 19, I hope you will be able to join us for our annual Family Math and Reading Night.

Last year was a huge success with families enjoying dinner (hot dogs, chips, drink) and

numerous math and reading games and activities. The event is scheduled from 5:30 – 6:15

dinner and 6:15 – 7:30 pm activities in the gym. The theme is “Cars” so we hope you will drive

over and join the fun!

February 25 is our Family Silvertips Game. SES has a reserved section to watch the game which

starts at 7 pm at the Xfinity Arena in Everett. It is always fun for students to join Lincoln, the

Everett Silvertips' bear mascot, to route on the team. Ruth and/or Annie would be

happy to sell you a ticket in the school office. The first 75 people to part with your

money will receive a Silvertips Blanket!

March 11 is the annual PTO Auction from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. in the gym at SES. This is

the biggest fundraiser we have to raise money for 5 th grade camp, field trips, assemblies

and other PTO sponsored activities which benefit our students. The theme is “Starry

Night Gala” and each teacher is sponsoring a classroom gift basket to be sold during

the live auction. It is always a great time and I hope you will be able to attend.

As always, it is a pleasure to serve as Principal of Stanwood Elementary School.
